Frequently asked questions
General
At Rooted Human Naturals, I focus on creating simple, thoughtful body care using ingredients that are chosen with purpose. Most of my products are made with naturally derived oils, butters, and clays. Some products also include skin-safe fragrance oils or cosmetic colorants (like mica) to create a more enjoyable sensory experience because how something feels and smells matters too.
Rather than labeling everything as strictly “natural,” I’ve organized the collection into a few clear categories so you can choose what feels right for you:
Barenaked: Fully natural, unscented, and preservative-free. This pillar is specifically for those with highly sensitive skin or those who prefer the most minimal ingredient lists possible.
Botanical: Scented exclusively with pure essential oils and naturally colored using clays and botanicals. These products offer gentle, nature-derived scents while maintaining a strictly natural profile.
Blended: Scented with skin-safe, responsibly sourced fragrance oils for sensory enjoyment. These products use naturally derived bases and are chosen for their performance, stability, and safety.
Seasonal / Limited Expressions: Small-batch, time-limited products that explore unique scents and textures. Depending on the season, these may fall into either the Botanical or Spirited categories, but they always align with Rooted Human Naturals’ high standards for ingredient integrity.
A Note on Safety & Preservation
I want you to feel completely at home in your skin, which means your safety is my top priority.
For products that contain water - such as my lotions and whipped scrubs - safety requires precise preservation to keep them fresh. While I am currently refining my own recipes and mastering the art of safe preservation in my studio, I’m choosing to use professionally formulated bases from trusted suppliers for now. This ensures every jar is stable and safe from the first use to the last.
My water-free (anhydrous) products do not require these added preservatives, as they are naturally resistant to bacteria. This includes:
Lip Rituals: Balms and sugar scrubs.
Beard Care: My Liquid Gold oils and my beeswax or vegan-based balms.
Anhydrous Scrubs: Including my oil-based Castile scrubs.
Body Butters: My concentrated Triple-Butter blends.
I believe in keeping things honest, intentional, and always evolving so you can feel confident in what you’re using on your skin. I believe in growing with intention. Every choice I make is centered on providing you with care that is as safe as it is honest.
Yes. Rooted Human is committed to cruelty - free practices across every product made.
I do not test on animals, do not use animal-tested ingredients, and thoughtfully source any non-vegan ingredients (such as beeswax or goats milk) from ethical suppliers who prioritize animal welfare.
Some products are fully vegan, and these are clearly identified for customers who prefer vegan options.
You may notice that my products display ingredients using their official INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) names, as required by cosmetic regulations. These are standardized Latin-based names used globally for consistency and transparency.
To make things easier to understand, I also provide the common, everyday names of ingredients under the INCI listing in brackets. For example, “Tocopherol” is Vitamin E, and “Cera Alba” is Beeswax. Both lists refer to the same ingredients. One is the regulatory format, and the other is for clarity.
Yes, I do. Palm oil is an incredible ingredient that helps create a long-lasting, hard bar of soap with a rich, creamy lather that is very kind to the skin. Currently, all of my soap foundations include palm oil because of these high-performance qualities.
However, I am fully aware of the environmental concerns surrounding palm oil production. Because I care deeply about the health of our planet and its wildlife, I only use RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil.
What does RSPO mean? The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) ensures that the oil is produced without clearing primary forests or harming endangered species like orangutans. By choosing certified sustainable palm oil, I am supporting a system that protects biodiversity and respects the rights of workers and local communities.
For me, "Intentional Simplicity" means making choices that are good for your skin and responsible for the earth.
Looking Ahead While I love the quality of my current bars, I am currently testing and refining new recipes to eventually bring a palm-free soap line to Rooted Human Naturals. I want to make sure that when I do release a palm-free option, it meets the same high standards for lather and skin-feel that you’ve come to expect from me.

Certain ingredients, such as beeswax or goats milk, have long-standing benefits in skincare and can be ethically sourced from responsible local producers.
Rooted Human does not use tallow or ingredients derived from animal slaughter. When non-vegan ingredients are included, they are chosen with care and respect for both the animals and the people using the products.
I offer a range of scent options to accommodate different skin sensitivities and preferences:
Unscented products for sensitive skin
Essential oil–scented products for those who prefer botanical aromas
Carefully selected fragrance oils that are free from common harsh additives
All scents are chosen with skin safety and product performance in mind.

Because many Rooted Human products are made without water or heavy stabilizers, natural ingredients can respond to temperature changes.
This may affect:
Texture
Firmness
Spreadability
These changes do not impact product quality or effectiveness. Keeping products cool and dry between uses will help maintain their original consistency.
Community Giving is an important part of Rooted Human Naturals, but as a very small business still building its customer base, I want to make sure the program can be supported in a way that is meaningful and sustainable. For now, I’m pausing it while the business grows. The goal is absolutely to bring it back once there is a stronger customer community behind it and I can support causes in a way that feels responsible and worthwhile. If you’ve already participated in Community Giving or purchased items that supported one of the featured causes, your Community Giving badges are yours to keep. Those contributions still matter, and pausing the program does not erase the part you’ve already played in it.
