Starting Again at 50: The Roots of Rooted Human Naturals

Sometimes life doesn't follow the path we imagined.

Sometimes it asks us to begin again.

My name is Amanda, and at 50 years old I am doing exactly that - starting over in ways I never expected.

Rooted Human Naturals didn't begin as a business plan. It began quietly, at my kitchen table, making small handmade gifts for Yule. I wanted to create things that felt meaningful - soaps, balms, and simple natural products made with care.

Things that felt grounding, comforting, and a little beautiful.

I had no idea then that those small gifts would grow into something bigger.

Like many people, my path here hasn’t been easy or straightforward. I live with BD, BPD, ADHD, CPTSD, GAD, Panic Disorder, and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

For a long time, life felt like something I was simply trying to survive rather than build.

And starting a new career at 50? That can feel terrifying.

There are moments when society quietly tells us that by this age we should already have everything figured out. That we should slow down, settle in, and accept where we landed.

But life doesn't always work that way.

Sometimes healing means starting again.

Sometimes growth happens later than expected.

Sometimes the most beautiful things take root after a long winter.

Rooted Human Naturals was born from that place - from the belief that we are never too old to grow, learn, or create something meaningful.

This journey has already been full of things I never expected. There is so much that goes into building even a small handmade business. Health Canada regulations, label requirements, ingredient sourcing, inventory systems, and things like accounting.

When I first started making soap, I thought I was just making something good for people.

I had no idea how much there was to learn behind the scenes.

But I'm learning. Slowly. One step at a time.

And along the way, I want to share this journey honestly - the wins, the struggles, the mistakes, and the growth.

Because I know I'm not the only one starting over.
